English

The development of mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) by incorporating functionalized inorganic fillers into polymer matrices is a promising strategy to enhance gas separation performance. In this study, MMMs composed of a polyimide (PI) matrix and sodium-Y zeolite (Na-Y) modified with the ionic liquid [OMIM][PF6] were fabricated for CO2 separation. The membranes were evaluated for CO2, CH4, and N2 permeability at 25 °C and pressures ranging from 2 to 10 bar. The optimum membrane containing 5 wt.% Na-Y/IL exhibited a CO2 permeability of 1259.3 Barrer and CO2/CH4 and CO2/N2 selectivities of 20.01 and 19.05, respectively; indicating up to 98% enhancement in permeability compared to the neat PI. The results demonstrate the significant potential of IL-functionalized zeolite fillers to improve both permeability and selectivity in MMMs for industrial CO2 separation applications.
